Dolphin Friendly

The band that gave me the last bit of motivation I needed to create this music blog, after their banga of a gig on the weekend just gone. Thanking you Sam specifically for giving me that support.

Dolphin Friendly’s music genre is most easily explainable by the feeling of letting loose. The liquid rock and twist of indie sound sensation makes you spiral into a rapturous state before flipping you 180 into a complete head-banging dream. Dolphin Friendly really know how to perform and their live gigs are always moments that snatch your conscience no matter how many beers you’ve enjoyed. Dolphin Friendly couldn’t have been a more ideal opening act for Mako Road back in 2018 in my favourite location, Mount Maunganui. Not long before the release of their debut EP “Tunes from the Tuna Can”. Where I experienced my first Totara St gig and heard the band live for the first time. Since that night I got right into their music and more bands like them and took every chance I could afford to see their thrilling live performances. Neither could they have better lifted the Tides festival line up, where they played several months later, on their DF & DF2 teuur, alongside The Butlers, Mako Road and Mini Simmons- four of my all-time favourite NZ bands. I also bought tickets for their show in the Mount on their first Debbie Fear & Dolphin Friendly NZ Teuur but unfortunately couldn’t make it because I was real sick. Also missing supporting acts; The Rambling and DailyJ that night too. Most recently, made a very last-minute decision to head to Gisborne for the East Coast Blitz Tour at The Dome, also with the supporting act- Spaghetti Toast. Was so fortunate to be able to experience the finest collaborating bands playing together yet again. Both bands so original and groove provoking complement each other like tequila and lime. And no doubt the full tank of gas and 7-hour drive to get there and back, with crutches was 100% worth it for another stellar night thanks to the boys from Mako Road, Dolphin friendly and Spaghetti Toast. Dolphin Friendly never fail to bless the crowd with entertainment and gift everyone with adrenalin going up from the floor boards up into our ears, so make sure to go have a listen to what they have up on Spotify (there most played song “Blackout” is definitely most played for a reason, top recommendation) and if you have the chance to hear these talents live, GO, would be an opportunity missed. Such an appreciative bunch of guys and really do deserve their loving fans who appreciate the effort put in to organising events for us <3. Looking eagerly forward to this fresh new EP you’ve been brewing up for us along with another NZ tour. EP set to be released end of April so make sure to keep ya ears pealed and watch for a stop on their NZ tour near you.

Preash and love,

Felicity x
